Earth tremor and cyclone

Whilst our weather has been extreme to say the least, the strange occurrences continue on the east coast of Australia!

An earth tremor measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale rocked southern Victoria. The epicentre was just outside the tiny historic town of Loch near Korumburra in the south east and was felt in Melbourne and beyond. The good news is that no one was injured nor were any buildings damaged.

It happened about 9.00pm last night. For me, I was sitting on the couch watching tv when my couch and table lamp shook quite severely. It certainly gave me a fright! My home is about a two hour drive from Loch so the strength of the tremor was quite a surprise.

To the north, the state of Queensland is bracing itself for a category 4 cyclone named Hamish moving just off the coast. Weather maps show its path to be traveling south following the coastline and many tourist islands in the Whitsunday group have cancelled bookings and are battening down. The local supermarket has sold out of tinned food, bottled water and candles. They say it may be felt as south as Hervey Bay!

With the extreme heat followed by colder temperatures, critical lack of rain and now these extremities, one can only wonder what is causing such an array of disturbing weather patterns.
