Australian flood update

It seems that whilst the state of Queensland continues to reel from the devastating flooding which has affected so many areas, the southern eastern corner of the country is now suffering from widespread flooding as well. The state of Victoria, my home state is now under siege from unprecedented rainfall which threatens the northern part of the state and into Melbourne. Emergency services were focusing their efforts 340 kilometers northwest of Melbourne at Swan Hill, a town of 10,000 where the Murray meets the swollen Loddon River and flood waters are expected to peak mid week, the State Emergency Service said. On Monday the SES said that 76 towns in Victoria have been affected by flooding, with 1,770 properties suffering some water damage. Another five to 10 towns are still in the floodwaters' northern path across flat wheat-growing country.

The following link is an amazing sight from above BRISBANE suburbs. It shows good map images of various Brisbane flood locations BEFORE AND AFTER . . . . MOVE YOUR CURSOR across each picture to see the before and after comparison.

This photo of a submerged road was taken in northern Victoria.

The following photos show the flooding has reached Melbourne which is in the south of the state. The Werribee Park golf course is flooded, (a northern suburb of Melbourne) Ballarat, Skipton, and Maryborough are under water as is the road from Torquay to Geelong. Many towns are totally cut off. Historic Castlemaine in central Victoria shows its submerged Railway Hotel. The last photo is of the Eastern freeway in Melbourne.

It is without doubt frightening, especially as we have been in severe drought conditions for years now. The weather is moving from one extreme to another. News reports suggest the clean up will take years across the country.
