Heading south for Grenada

After much deliberation and weather watching, our skipper has decided to avoid risking hurricanes and the already cloudy rainy weather we are experiencing and head south towards South America. We are now looking for a window to set sail for St Maarten first. That is the longest over night sail and after that it's an island hop through divine islands all the way south, it's a line of islands you can follow on your map. After St Maarten we follow the line - St Barts, St Kitts, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Isle de Saints, Dominica, Martinique, St Lucia, St Vincent, Bequia, Carricuo before arriving into Grenada. Should be a fascinating sail, one of these islands has a volcano, others well known for their famous guests and just paradise. I will aim to write about each one as I get there.....this journey should prove to be far more interesting AND safer than the original!

Steve is going to leave his boat down there for maintenance and will head back to Miami with me around the middle to end of September. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather to accompany us!

At present I am writing from St John, this island is just awesome. It has lots of history with sugar plantations and ruins to see. There are endless coves of coconut lined white sand beaches with turquiose crystal clear waters with safe anchorages. We are presently anchored in Maho Bay and last night watched a sunset that took your breath away. Yes! I have it on camera! This morning I woke up to pouring rain but went for a swim to shore and ran along the beach. The warm rain embraced me whilst I hooted for joy! On the swim back a huge sting-ray swam under me amongst the tropical fish. We have come into the town of Cruz Bay where the coloured buildings are filled with quaint shops, cafes and restaurants. I will add photos as soon as I can.

Catch you soon!

  1. I was hooked on your description and your exhilarating voyage! However much I like travel, I've only visited most of Europe so far due to my fear of flying. But if only I had the time and the money, I'd love to sail all around the world! I'll be back to see the photos.
