Melbourne Earthquake magnitude 5.2

Michelle and I were sitting at her kitchen table eating her delicious olive and anchovy pasta and happily chatting away when it started. I first thought a large truck was rumbling along Glenhuntly Road, but very quickly realised it was something far stronger!

Melbourne had again been struck by an earthquake! This time a stronger 5.2 on the Richter scale and it shook from one end of Victoria to the other. For us it continued for some 30-40 seconds. The dinner table shook as did the whole room. Kind of scary....

Here is a segment from the NineMSM website posted some 40 minutes after the hit:-

"Windows were rattled and floors rocked as the tremor hit around 8.55pm (AEST) and lasted for around 30 to 40 seconds.
The US Geological Survey website registered a 5.2-magnitude quake 10km southwest of Moe, at a depth of 9.9km.
The Bureau of Meteorology said it was receiving reports of the quake from Bright and Myrtleford in the northeast and Wonthaggi in the southeast of Victoria."

It does of course, leave one obvious question...."Did the earth move for you too?"

The aftermath at Coles in Wonthaggi, photo taken and posted on the NineMSM site within an hour of the quake!

New Year's Eve 2009

Another amazing year has flown by and we are about to enter 2010. It seems only yesterday that we were all waiting for the millennium and the much feared Y2K! - how time seems to race! New Year's Day here in Melbourne Australia has brought predicted rain that continues to fall after a couple of days of high temperatures heading towards 40C degrees. My dear friends and I had planned to watch Melbourne's fireworks with a combined picnic on the beach but a band of storm clouds hit the city around 9pm. As you can see in the photo from The Age, the clouds were dark and intimidating! We decided to play it safe and stay indoors enjoying a relaxing dry night chatting and watching the fireworks on television! Thunder, lightning and a heavy downpour hit our city but abated towards midnight to enable a spectacle of bright and colourful lights to adorn our skies!
Yachts racing in the Sydney to Hobart had a safe calm passage, my daughter and partner are in town, the earth has had a good soak of much needed rain and I had a wonderful long chat with my Dad and other family! Life is good!

"Happy New Year" to all reading this post and may 2010 bring you great health, love, happiness, laughter, good friends, success in business and safe travel!
Cheers to all!
